Wine that gladdens the heart of man…

Lots of plans are brewing behind the scenes here at Heavenly King Orthodox Academy!  Full disclosure: we tried so hard to make a pun that had more to do with wine, but saying that “lots of plans are fermenting” just doesn’t have the same ring to it.

All joking aside, we are planning a bunch of fun events that will help us reach our fundraising goal – and our first one will be an online wine raffle!  Details will come in another newsletter, but all this week we will be accepting wine bottle donations.  We are aiming to collect at least 30 bottles in total, so that we have a good selection of prizes available to win.  If you are able to donate a sealed, commercially produced bottle of wine, please contact Fr Sinisa sinisadjakon91@gmail.com to drop it off at St Sava’s Serbian Orthodox Church.  If you would like to contribute but would like us to pick it up, please contact admin@heavenlykingacademy.ca.   We will be accepting wine donations until Friday, December 10th.  Thanks in advance for your generous support.

There is also another big event in the works for the spring which we are collecting auction prizes for.  If you are able to donate gift certificates or merchandise, we would love to hear from you!

Psalm 104 speaks of “wine that gladdens the heart of man”, but something else has been gladdening our hearts lately, and that is working out the vision and mission statement for our new school.  Today we’d like to share them with you:

Vision

To create a joyful learning environment, rooted in Orthodox values, that engages the mind and illuminates the heart.

Mission

To work alongside the family and the Church, educating the whole child within a Christ-centred environment, serving the pan-Orthodox community of Winnipeg and its surrounding areas.

In order to fulfill this mission, our goals are to:

-          Offer a strong, well-rounded academic program.

-          Foster the intellectual, physical, and spiritual well-being of our students and staff.

-          Serve Orthodox families from all cultures and all backgrounds and all jurisdictions.

-          Teach in our common English language, while celebrating our cultural diversity, especially by encouraging students and staff to share through liturgical music and iconography.

-          Nurture an Orthodox mindset and outlook through prayer, Scripture, Tradition and practicing virtue.

We hope this gladdens your heart as much as it does ours!  We simply cannot wait until we are able to open our doors and welcome our students.

With love in Christ,

The HKOA Team

We are still collecting applications for full/part-time teacher, educational assistant and administrator positions for the 2022-2023 school year.  To apply, please send a letter of interest, a resume, 2 letters of recommendation and a pastoral reference letter to admin@heavenlykingacademy.ca by December 15, 2021.

Following that, potential candidates will be called and interviewed by the end of January.  Final staffing decisions will be made in March/April once student enrollment is confirmed.
