What’s in a name?
Welcome to Heavenly King Orthodox Academy, Winnipeg’s first pan-Orthodox school.
We know this has been a dream for so many of us over the years, for decades really, and we feel so humbled and blessed to share the news that this dream is finally becoming reality. Glory to God! By your prayers and by God’s grace, our dedicated team is working tirelessly to check all the boxes and submit our formal application to Manitoba Education, so that we can open our doors in Fall of 2022.
Heavenly King will serve Orthodox families from all cultures and all backgrounds and all jurisdictions. It’s so fitting that our team is currently made up of members of Serbian, Greek, Coptic, Ukrainian and OCA parishes – it’s been a true joy to work together as the Body of Christ. To think that our children will be able to attend school together, and will grow up experiencing this pan-Orthodox unity as an everyday reality is a truly beautiful thing.
You might be curious about why we titled this letter, What’s in a name? Well in our opinion, a whole lot. We prayed and pondered over what we should call ourselves, over what God was asking us to be. We were moved to name ourselves after the Holy Spirit, the Heavenly King, the Comforter, the Spirit of Truth who descended upon the Church at Pentecost and is the common thread for all of us Orthodox Christians. May the Holy Spirit continue to move us and aid us as we continue on this path.
We received an overwhelmingly positive response from our survey, so thank you to those who have filled it out! It has helped us understand the scope of interest and revealed the wealth of skills and knowledge in our community! We are truly blessed to have your support.
